Fun times here at the M+E Studio. We’ll be working on some great new projects this spring, but before we get to those, we have two exciting bits of news.

Emma and I were recently interviewed for Michael Harlan Turkell’s radio show Food Seen, which airs on the Heritage Radio Network. We talk about all the various food-related projects we’ve worked on, as well as our misspent youth. Being on the radio was lots of fun, especially because the radio station is attached to Roberta’s, and we had some delicious pizza when we were done.

I was also asked to contribute a little piece for the Virginia Quarterly Review on a favorite book jacket. It’s thrilling to be included in the piece with some of my favorite designers of all time. You can check that out here.

New Identities

I woke up this morning and realized I hadn’t updated the site in months. It has been a busy Fall. In September, Emma’s first novel, Laura Lamont’s Life in Pictures, was released via Riverhead Books and we embarked on a nearly three-month-long book tour. It was super fun. You can read about the last week (when she opened for The Magnetic Fields) here. Also, if you haven’t bought the book yet, please do. It makes a perfect holiday gift!

All the while, we were working on the road and during the short breaks between trips. Here are a few of the new identities we designed this summer/fall.

Our friends Lindsay Key and David Shade create beautiful interior spaces. We designed this logo for them as well as their website. Check them out.

The Barn at Flanagan Farm is a new property from the people who run The Barn on Walnut Hill—another property we designed the identity for. Lookout for a website for the property early next year.

Our friends at The Brooklyn Kitchen started JCAN to bring knowledge of Japanese cuisine, technique, and ingredients to America. Find out more about them here.

Black Owl Ventures is a new creative consulting and development firm. Look for more from them in 2013.

The Rogue Reader is an ePub focused on releasing original, outsider suspense fiction. Learn more about them here.

We’re also putting the finishing touches on one of the most exciting projects I’ve worked on all year. It’s a new restaurant from the people who brought you Seersucker and Smith Canteen. It’s called Nightingale 9 and will be open in the next couple of months. I’ll unveil the logo and signage once we’re all done.

We’re Back!

We’re back from tour and back to work. There are a bunch of new projects we’re really excited about in the works. For example, as soon as we got back, we designed this shirt for the Brooklyn-based band Hospitality. Their self-titled record is out now via Merge Records. Pick it up, go see them live and buy the shirt below! We also spent some time updating the various sections within “Work” on the site. Be sure to check them out too.

One of the most gratifying things we do is get to handsell things we’ve designed, and there’s no more fun place to do that than at the merch booth for our pals The Magnetic Fields. If you haven’t ever listened to the band, you should start here, with their new record, Love at the Bottom of the Sea (which we designed). If you love them, you should buy a ticket to one of the concerts here. If you love them and have already bought a ticket, you should be sure to follow the tour blog that Emma and I are keeping here and visit the merch booth when you come.

Hey, I’ve Read Books!

Sorry for the radio silence recently. We’ve been gearing up to once again hit the road and sell merch for our friends The Magnetic Fields on their upcoming US and Canadian tours. If you live in any of the cities we’re coming to, please come to the show and stop by the merch booth and say hi. We like scones and whiskey. Just sayin…..

Anyway, we just got these tees we designed for our dear friends at WORD Bookstore in Greenpoint, Brooklyn back from the printer. Check them out below. If you’re not in Brooklyn, but still want to tell everyone how you read books, you can order a shirt online here. We’re also working on baby and kids variations. Keep an eye out.

New Work: Packaging for Ovenly

The amazing ladies of Ovenly approached us a few months ago about designing their packaging for the amazing savory snacks they make. Check out some of the results below. We’re also in the process of redesigning their website and working on a few other exciting projects with them. Stay tuned. Also, seek out and buy their chocolate ginger cookies as well as their egg nog cookies. They’ll blow your mind.

New Work: The Magnetic Fields “Love at the Bottom of the Sea”

We’re so excited to reveal the cover we designed for the upcoming Magnetic Fields release Love at the Bottom of the Sea! Wait until you see the interior! LatBotS will be released via Merge Records on March 6, 2012. The release will be followed by a North American tour which we’ll, once again, be designing and selling merch for. So, get your tickets to one of the shows (dates below), come by the merch booth, and say hi. We accept baked goods, alcohol, and hugs. Be sure to pre-order the record over at Merge. We’ve had it on repeat in the studio for the last few weeks. Trust us when we say it’s amazing. The first 100 orders get a M+E-designed poster and button. Finally, the first 500 copies of the LP are on eggshell-colored vinyl. The limited vinyl will only be available at the Merge Store and on tour. Get one before they’re gone.
